State Council’s Social Committee hosts delegation of Ministry of Transport and PDO

The Social Committee of the State Council reviewed today, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 , with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, and a number of Ministry officials, the topics related to its  study of  the proposal to review the Law on “Environmental Protection and Pollution Control” issued by Royal Decree No. (114/2001).

 

The committee hosted during its fifth meeting of the second annual session of the seventh term, chaired by Hon.Ahmed bin Ali bin Abdullah Al Habshi al Amri, Social Committee Head  in the presence of the honorable members of the Committee , Secretary-General of the Council, HE. Eng.Salem bin Mohammed Al Naimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, and several officials of the Ministry.

The committee discussed the internal legislations, laws and regulations implemented by the ministry in the field of environmental conservation and pollution control, its duplication and the multiplicity of laws concerned with environmental pollution and the extent of this impact on environmental protection, in addition to identifying the types of pollution that the ministry deals with, and the national effort it undertakes to combat pollution and preserve the environment.

 The committee also discussed during the hosting the challenges facing the ministry in the field of environmental protection and pollution control, the ministry’s proposals on current legislation and dealing with violations, the proposed legislation on these aspects, and the extent of coordination with government agencies and other competent authorities that deal with them.

The delegation of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology included: Engineer Salem bin Saeed Al Ameri, Acting Director General of Roads and Land Transport, and Taher bin Mohammed Al Busaidi, Acting Director General of the Navy at the Ministry.

In the same context, the committee hosted a number of PDO officials to discuss with them the axes and topics related to the same study that aims to find out the current legislations and laws on environmental protection and pollution control to know their provisions and what are inconsistent with the provisions of the draft law under study, and to review the international treaties and conventions that the Sultanate has joined related to the topic. The study aims to find out its provisions and to consider its consistency with the Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Law, to review the ministerial regulations and decisions related to the study, as well as to take into account the opinion of the relevant competent authorities or any other concerned with the subject of the study. 

The PDO delegation included: Muhammad bin Khalfan Al-Shuaili, Director of Climate Change and Sustainability, Nabil Murthada Al Lawati, Head of Environmental Affairs, Dr. Ali Bin Salem Al-Alawi, Leader of the Waste Management Team, Zahran bin Zahir Al-Busaidi, Leader of the Soil and Groundwater Team, and Saeed bin Muhammad Al Saqri, Leader of the Air and Gas Emissions Team  For global warming.
